Mancunian No Wave types DUDS have been a firm fixture of the DIY scenes of their home city and Leeds for the past 18 months, winning praise for their short sharp blasts of rhythmical energy and abstract experimentation.
Drawing inspiration from post punk, Captain Beefheart and NYC No Wave legend James Chance, the quintet’s most recent EP ‘Wet Reduction’ is a spiky sonic rush recorded live to tape in Manchester’s Aatma Gallery. Scoring praise from none other than post-punk progenitors Wire, the band’s mainman Colin Newman included the disc’s lead off track ‘No Remark’ in his New Music Picks article for The Quietus. DUDS’ next release debut LP ‘…Of A Nature Or Degree’, is slated for a September release through leading Californian underground label Castle Face Records, home to King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Ty Segall.
