Following on Guadalupe Plata’s PZYK tear-up in 2016, Spain has struck gold again as Barcelona’s finest Celestial Bums are headed our way to log their first show in Liverpool. Rich in deep-pile 12-string guitars and spacious atmospheres, Celestial Bums create modern liquid psychedelia, ranging from hazy, slow rolling vistas to fuzz-driven droning mantras and on to Velvets-like heavy jams.
The band’s first album ‘Ascend’ received a warm reception from the blogosphere across Europe and was issued by Belgian indie label EXAG Records, home to Psych Fest alumni Wooden Indian Burial Ground and Helicon. Proof of the LP’s provenance, the disc was tracked at Cacophony Recorders in Austin, Texas with sessions overseen by Kyle Hunt, producer for fellow Psych Fest 2017 doyens The Black Angels.
