PZYK 2016 Announcement #2

We are PZYKD to unveil individual day line-ups and day tickets alongside our full artist programme for this year’s interstellar soiree, taking place on 23 + 24 September 2016. Cult soul-infused shoegazers THE VELDT, raucous post-punk tearways EAGULLS and the Heavenly duo of GWENNO and THE WYTCHES join the fray alongside headliners SUPER FURRY ANIMALS and THE HORRORS for our two-day droneathon at Camp and Furnace, Blade Factory and District in Liverpool’s Baltic quarter.

We’re also delighted to be teaming up with SpaceFest in Gdansk to bring international music collective PURE PHASE ENSEMBLE to Liverpool. In 2015, MARK GARDNER (Ride) was invited to lead the collective, writing and performing a stunning shoegaze opus, which has since been released as a live record and film. Their appearance at Liverpool Psych Fest will be the first time the project has been performed in the UK.

PURE PHASE ENSEMBLE 4

The highly influential French underground label La Souterraine, who, according to Pitchfork, have been “unearthing the future of French pop” since issuing their first immaculate compilation in 2013, present Fête Souterraine at Liverpool Psych Fest 2016. The curation will feature AQUAGASCALLO (an Aquaserge trio, playing songs by Julien Gasc, Aquaserge and Tame Impala’s Julien Barbagallo), the irresistible ARLT and the Quietus-lauded kraut-combo FRANCE.

Elsewhere, we’re pleased to have a trio of stunning Mexican voyagers, with LORELLE MEETS THE OBSOLETE, HAS A SHADOW and VAYA FURURO showing the strength and dynamism of Mexico’s buoyant neo-psych scene. The Hardly Art and Burger Records-released LA LUZ also join the bill from Seattle, fresh off 2015’s Ty Segall-produced long player ‘Weirdo Shrine’. Portland’s vaporous and soaring MUSCLE AND MARROW also join us from across the Atlantic, while, closer to home, German synth innovator HARALD GROSSKOPF and the blistering ULRIKA SPACEK join the PZYK Colony for 2016.

The full PZYK 2016 line-up features a fine selection of artists from across the globe, between them spanning the international PZYK sub-culture. This year, Tokyo-based label GURUGURU BRAIN present NARROW ROAD TO THE DEEP MIND: a curation of the finest PZYK wunderkinds from across the Asian underground. KIKAGAKU MOYO (Tokyo) MINAMI DEUTSCH (Tokyo), NAWKSH (Karachi) and PRAIRIE WWWW (Taipei) play alongside a host of visual and audio surprises. Check out the full line-up in our amazing line-up video below:

Weekend and individual day tickets are on sale now for the two-day happening over 23 + 24 September, as well as a number of accommodation packages. Full details on the PZYK 2016 ticketing options can be found on the Tickets section of our website. Physical tickets will also be on sale at Probe Records (Liverpool), Piccadilly Records (Manchester) and Jumbo Records (Leeds).

Further additions to the line-up and festival programme will be announced over the coming weeks, and make sure you sign up to our PZYK CABLE newsletters to make sure that you don’t miss any of the latest news.

See you in the vortex.
