PZYK 2016 Announcement #1

We are PZYKD to unveil iconic Welsh psychedelic trailblazers SUPER FURRY ANIMALS and London’s kaleidoscopic dream-weavers THE HORRORS as headliners for this year’s interstellar soiree, taking place on 23 + 24 September 2016.

If there were ever a band who distilled the PZYK ethos so perfectly, in all its mad-cap glory, it is SUPER FURRY ANIMALS; our very own, quintessentially odd-ball PZYK royalty. Twenty one years after the release of their genre-defining debut EP Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (In Space), Huw Bunford, Cian Ciaran, Dafydd Ieuan, Guto Price and Gruff Rhys join the PZYK colony for what is set to be a hugely anticipated headline performance.

SUPER FURRY ANIMALS

THE HORRORS are without doubt one of Britain’s premier modern day guitar bands, who really flourished with 2009’s Geoff Barrow-produced ‘Primary Colours’ as they morphed into shoegaze and krautrock territory. They then then took another creative left turn with their psychedelic-inspired efforts ‘Skying’ and ‘Luminous’, which demonstrate their ever-improving ability to combine motorik rhythms, musique concrete and vintage synths to hypnotic effect. These are just some of the many reasons why The Horrors are not to be missed this year.

THE HORRORS

The 2016 edition follows last year’s sold-out and critically lauded instalment of the festival. The Baltic Triangle festival site will once again feature four performance spaces, with District – a converted manufacturing facility – alongside the complex of warehouses across Camp and Furnace and the Blade Factory. Organisers are also planning a further heavy terrain of analogue fuzz and subterranean gloop, digi-grit noize makers and kaleidoscopic adventurers – in virtual and actual realities – as part of the PZYK Gallery and Village.

Elsewhere, the PZYK 2016 line-up features a fine selection of artists from across the globe, between them spanning the international PZYK sub-culture. This yeah, Tokyo-based label GURUGURU BRAIN present NARROW ROAD TO THE DEEP MIND: a curation of the finest PZYK wunderkinds from across the Asian underground. KIKAGAKU MOYO (Tokyo) MINAMI DEUTSCH (Tokyo), NAWKSH (Karachi) and PRAIRIE WWWW (Taipei) play alongside a host of visual and audio surprises.

Tickets are on sale now for the two-day happening over 23 + 24 September, as well as a number of accommodation packages. Full details on the PZYK 2016 ticketing options can be found on the Tickets section of our website. Physical tickets will also be on sale at Probe Records (Liverpool), Piccadilly Records (Manchester) and Jumbo Records (Leeds).

Further additions to the line-up and festival programme will be announced over the coming weeks, and make sure you sign up to our PZYK CABLE newsletters to make sure that you don’t miss any of the latest news.

See you in the vortex.
